Plus size kind of Life

Plus size Kind of Life

Remember when I wrote that I am incapable of picking a niche when it comes to my blog. Hence Uniquely made Sarah Gai. Why? because I'm a one of a kind. I love to write about christianity, books, authors, what i'm making, etc, etc, etc.
SO.... as the year draws to an end I decided that this new years I'm going to make a new years resolution. Never ever done that before, but I figure why not?
If you have been following me for a while you know that I am a fan of plus size heroine writing. Love my plus size girls. As you can tell from my above photo I too am a plus size girl.
And in all honesty I generally don't mind it. This is how people know me and see me. Now for the scary bit... I'm in my thirties and already suffering health problems. Always tired, pre diabetes, smoker, coffee junkie... goodness i'm a walking, ticking time bomb.
Now, back to the new years resolution.
As of the 1st of January I am going to go on a little journey to get healthier. Once a month on my www.sarahgai.com page I will update my progress. With photos, issues, menu ideas, exercise etc. Join my community and come along for the journey, post your own photo's in my chat room, get your friends to sign up. swap tips and ideas.
I will caution you all now. I'm not out to drop a huge amount of weight, but I do want to get healthier.  live by example and teach my children that anything is possible. I would love the support

We all have God Given Gifts

There are often times in my own life when I wanted to question God. What are my God given gifts, Lord?
I have so many Christian and non Christian friends ask me the same question, time and time again.
Maybe we are hoping that one morning we wake up and discover we have been blessed with the gift of healing, prophecies, speaking of tongues. The list of gifts is so large we miss the very gifts that we were born with.
I believe that before God can bestow upon us the gifts that take strong people to handle we must first plant a seed and water it to help it grow.
So… how do we do that? We start with what we have already at hand.
What are you good at? Can you write, sing, paint. Do you relate to people well? Can you offer a hand of help? cleaning for someone, driving someone somewhere?. Maybe you are a mighty prayer warrior.
I love to write, as you can tell. I also love to sing on our worship team and teach Sunday school. I make cards for people and take them out for coffee to just generally see how they are.
You see if you look close and dig deep you can find your unique gifts. They may seem small and significant. But did you know even a simple smile or a helping hand can change a persons life.
Start with the gifts you already have and seek God fervently in prayer. More and More everyday I guarantee you will begin to see how amazing and unique God has made you and grow in that, embrace it more and step outside to reach the world. Sarah Gai, www.sarahgai.com

Remember to put Christ in Christmas!

It's once again the season for holiday cheer, family gatherings, tables laden with food, presents under the tree. Carols by candle light celebrations. It really is the time of year where everybody is busy and the whole point of why we celebrate this joyous day can be forgotten. By the time Christmas morning rolls around it becomes about unwrapping presents, then preparing for the day ahead whether it's visiting the family or cooking a monstrous feast. And don't get me wrong... I LOVE those parts.

The other day I was running our churches Sunday school. As Christmas day draws closer we begin to start our yearly singing and gift preparations with the children. My task for the class was to help the children make Christmas cards that they could hand out to the church goers on Christmas day.
As I was writing my own card out to show the children an example to follow I signed the card inside with Merry Xmas. One of the young six year olds in the class, tapped me on the arm to get my attention.
"You took Christ out of Christmas, Sarah" he politely told me. I was baffled for a moment, thinking what on earth he was talking about, until he pointed down at the card where I had written Xmas
"See you crossed him out" he frowned still pointing at my writing.

Well, you can only imagine my horror when I took his words into my heart and realised what he mean't. To be corrected by a sweet little six year old. From that one comment it set my entire Festive season into a new direction.
Took me back to the core of what this joyous season is really about.
So when you wake up Christmas morning, before opening presents, be conscious of the day is about. As a family take a few minutes to say a prayer for the saviour that was born for us. Say happy birthday to him and rejoice. Before each meal, say a prayer in remembrance.
Remember to put Christ in Christmas.
God Bless!

This weekends crazy schedule!!!

Hey everyone,
So if you haven't noticed already I changed the name of my blog to Uniquely made - Sarah Gai. Later on this week I will explain why I felt the need to do so. I think it reflects me a little better ;). For now though I want to talk about my crazy and eventful weekend that has begun.
So yesterday was my 11th wedding anniversary. Yes I know what you're thinking, I'm way to young to be married lol. So back to topic. Being the mother of three amazing boisterous little boys, it's not often that my husband and I get to go out and actually have adult conversation. Bragging rights are necessary as we went to a fine dining establishment and ordered the most delectable food.
What we both realised is that we really needed to set more time aside to connect.
So was last night amazing?.... OH YEAH.

Now for today, we have a lovely drive ahead to my super cute nephews 1st birthday. So excited to celebrate with him. Am I excited about going though and mingling with the in laws? Hmm... I would have to say, I sure am :).
Now for the last day of my busy weekend, that involves me singing at Sunday church and that is something I don't miss, like ever. It is my favourite day of the week where I get to sing my big heart out to my one true love Jesus. Yes, he rocks and I'm proud to shout that to the world.

Until next time my dear blog readers. Be sure to sign up to this blog and follow with my journey in this random life of mine. I love to interact and get to know you. Make this apart of your own walk and not just a blog visit

Loving Brody by Sarah Gai

Loving Brody by Sarah Gai

(Book 1 Finding you series)
This short story is Book One in the Finding you series. Follow these sweet people as they struggle through emotions, drama, love. Learning to walk forward and embracing life. Meg has always done things for herself. Survived on her own, guarding her heart from anyone and everyone. But her new next door neighbour threatens to knock her carefully constructed walls to the ground. Brody can't stop thinking about his new neighbour, with her auburn locks and that rare smile he longs to see more often. Will Brody be able to break through Meg's resistance? Will Meg finally let someone in?

This is my First attempt at christian short story romance. I love a clean read as you would know from my last books. I also love imperfect characters. Out of the normal characters with walls guarding their heart, tattoos, crazy hair etc. I want them to be as close as possible to the faults of regular, everyday people that I know and inspire me. I also wanted to add the christian aspect into this series as it is a big important part of my own life. And I can admit that I have many faults, quirks and habits. But by his grace I am saved despite my down falls.
I really hope you get behind this little series I have started and share the love.
Available at Amazon and iBooks

Levi Mc Grath

Great new Christian Singer

I was listening to my local christian radio station recently and this amazing, refreshing voice came on. I waited impatiently until the end of the song just hoping that they would say the name of the artist.
Well, I was lucky and an unknown name to me all of a sudden became the number one album that I began listening to.
Now I would like to introduce you to the one and only Levi Mc Grath.
Come home is by far my favourite.
What will yours be? Let me know...

River of Time series by Lisa T Bergren

River Of Time Series
by Lisa t Bergren

This series most definitely gets 5 ***** stars from me. There are five books in all and each and everyone is a winner. Each books is packed with adventure, romance, fierce women, friendship etc.

Waterfall- Gabi and Lia are stuck among the rubble of medieval castles in rural Tuscany on an an archaeological dig with their mother. Until Gabi stumbles upon an old tomb and finds herself transported back to fourteenth century Italy.

Cascade- When Gabi and Lia find themselves back in fourteenth century and in the middle of major battles alongside their knights in shining armour- they have no idea if they can get back to present time, or if they even want to.

Torrent- When Gabi and Lia finally learn to search the river of time, they realise they must make hard choices about life and love in torrent, the third book in the time series.

Along with these books are also Bourne and Tributary. I really recommend you check them out. I had little sleep as I consumed these books. When the last page was read and the book closed I fell into slumber with a smile on face

Golden syrup dumplings- An Aussie fav!!!

Golden Syrup Dumplings- YUM!!

Okay... so remember how I mentioned that I tend to not stick to a particular theme? Well, here is a perfect example of that. Instead of writing about my life or my spiritual journey as a child of God... I just had to share an oldie but a goodie.

The Golden syrup dumplings....OMG!!. As a child this was a staple when it came to a sweet dessert in my home. Now that I have Three children of my own, once again this has become a family fav. They are so easy to make... Without further rambling, I give you the recipe :)

You will need :

3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar
1/3 cup (80ml) golden syrup
100gm of butter
1 1/2 cups (225g) self raising flour
3/4 cup (185ml) milk
2 cups of water

Step 1: rub 50g of butter with your fingertips into the 1 1/2 cups of flour. Add milk and One tablespoon of golden syrup. Stir the mixture until well combined. ( I like to use my mixer to thoroughly blend ingredients. Your choice) leave to sit while we prepare the sauce.

Step 2: Combine 2 cups of water, 50g butter, brown sugar, 1/4 cup of golden syrup into a large saucepan. Stir over low heat until melted.

Step 3: Bring the sauce to boil and drop in a tablespoon of mixture into the saucepan, until about six are cooking atone time. Reduce the heat to low and let simmer, covered for about 10- 15 minutes or until skewer comes out clean. In total mixture should produce around twelve dumplings.

Step 4: when cooked serve in a bowl with a nice amount of vanilla ice cream.

Happy cooking.

Lift your voice in worship and praise

Lift your voice in worship

Psalms 63:3-4 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork
One of my all time favourite things to do is Worship the lord. When I wake in the morning before getting the children up and ready for school, I turn on some praise and worship music and sing to my hearts content. It's in those moments that I raise my hands towards heaven and give him my everything. My focus, attention, adoration and love.

Singing is not the only way to praise the lord. Through prayer, thanking him, doing his works, it should be something that we do throughout the day. Just our daily life should be about bringing him praise and glory. But today my focus is lifting your hands and voices.
What we can sometimes fail to see is just how important worship can be. Whether we are at church, home, car, walking. When we focus on Jesus in our hearts and minds. When we listen to those words and sing them with gusto, amazing things can happen.
It can bring clarity to a situation, It can clear our minds of daily troubles, lifting burdens we need not carry. Sometimes it can cause grief to be acknowledged or un forgiveness to be confronted. Best of all it can draw us closer to the spirit and leave us in awe. A place where god can communicate with us openly.
So, keep in mind that we are never to busy to turn on a song and raise our voices to the heavens. Next time your cooking dinner or driving to the grocery store, turn up the Music and worship.

God's Calling

God's Calling

There have often been times in my life where I raise my face to the sky and ask the lord " Father what is my calling? What am I called to be in this life? What great and wonderful things will I do in your name?
Like myself I have had many people throughout the years say the same thing to me. They ask, seek and wait for some miraculous calling to happen in their lives. I'm sure even you have had the same kind of questions. What was I put on this earth to do?
I'm not ashamed to admit that when I was younger I was sure that I was destined for greatness. Something big and noteworthy. Always looking and waiting for the day when all of god's plans would fall into place and shoot me into the spotlight.
Ha, let me tell you, that day did not come. And praise the lord for that.
Let me tell you though. We all have a calling. Whether it's something big and life saving like a doctor. Something life changing, like a social worker or teacher. Something loving and nurturing, like a parent. No matter big or small, in god's eyes every task that he sets before us is worthy of his cause.
I began to realise that we all have one calling in common. What is that you ask?
To love thy neighbour.
Luke 10, 30-37 30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[c] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
This is one of my favourite scriptures in the bible. You see while we wait for something bigger, we sometimes miss the very simple and everyday things we can do in his name. It could be as simple as helping someone at the supermarket with getting their trolley to the car. Talking to that lonely person that sits at the back of the church every sunday. Mowing the lawn for an elderly man that lives on your street. Calling that person that god has put in your mind that day.
Often in life we over look people who really need god's reassurance that they are loved. We walk past that homeless person without a second glance. And I hate to say it but often I will remind myself even when I just don't have the heart to want to help anyone. What would Jesus do?
So my point of the week is. Stop waiting for God's big time calling. Everything he does is in his own perfect time. Start with the small whisperings. The ones that tell us to love thy neighbour. You may one day become a missionary and help the less fortunate nations. Until then start within your family, friends, town.
Embrace that calling
God Bless x

Take Up Your Cross

Take Up Your Cross.

This is something that took me a very long time to understand. Believe it or not when I heard people use the term Carry your cross I was scared. When I thought of the humiliation, shame and brutality that was inflicted on our saviour upon the cross, this was not a thought that was appealing to me.
My thoughts were along the lines of, why would people want to be persecuted? Why would we want suffering? Why would they want such burdens? and would that make me a better christian? I mean who would want that right?

Finally I got it! After years of battling with hurts and trials. Trying to be a good and loving person, putting others first and following God with my whole heart. I was still waging my way through storms. There would always be a breakthrough and the weathers would calm but before I knew it another battle would rage. Whether it was sickness, financial, other people using or hurting me, the pattern never seemed to cease.
Then it hit me when a scripture came into the forefront of my thoughts

Luke 9:23.

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

It continued to replay this scripture over and over like a record and I just had to study into it a little further. So in my own words this is what I got out of this study.

When we take up the cross willing we are accepting that The situation whatever it may be calls us to be in the likeness of Jesus. He carried his own cross full well knowing what awaited him at the end of that trek. Was it death? No it was everlasting life. He carried that cross and gave Forgiveness and grace upon those who were undeserving. He went willingly knowing that his Father in heaven was behind him.

Eg. I'm sick, although the sickness is not welcome in my body I can turn from Jesus, be angry at him and ask him why would you allow this? or I could take up my cross, thank him for making me strong enough to endure, making me more dependant upon his promises in this tough time. Thank the doctor for bringing me a diagnosis and for the family that has my back.

Eg. Someone has said terrible, hurtful lies about you. You forgive them but they do it again and again. I could fight a losing battle, rely on my fleshly instincts and react in self defence, or I could take up my cross, walk away, forgive them and ooh here's the hardest part... ask God to bless them.

You see? That is what taking up the cross means to me. It's walking through what wars against us and instead of trying to handle any situation in the flesh and acting without thoughts to consequences or damage we ourselves can inflict. We need to think about the actions Jesus would have taken. That is obedience to the father. Through taking up the cross we allow Jesus to walk with us, to comfort us, to draw closer. When we reach the end of the Journey, Christ takes our Burdens from us restoring and gifting us with the new found strength we never knew we had. With new wisdom and Courage in preparation for when the next storm comes, where we can take it on and ultimately crush it.
What does Taking up the cross mean to you?
God bless x

More to self image

More to self image.

1 Samuel 16:7 ESV /

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

I want to try and take a different approach this week as I talk about self image. Yes we have heard it all before. "You shouldn't compare yourself to the models in magazines, television, movies" etc. But how can we not, when that's what we see. It's everywhere we look. We judge ourselves because we may not measure up to what society says is perfection. We look at our reflection and criticise what's mirroring back at us. People will tell you "It's what's on the inside that counts". Well, guess what? They're right.

I pondered over self image and went to the bible for answers. Guess what I found? God never wrote about their physical appearances. What did Adam look like? Couldn't tell you. What colour were Eve's eyes? Who knows. How tall? What weight? Slim or Fat? Hair colour?.The list goes on and on.
Abraham says that Sarah is beautiful. But what is beautiful back then? What did Jesus really look like?( I really do want to know that by the way lol)

See where i'm going with this? God didn't need to write about their physical characteristics. There was no need too. It did not change their stories or make them better people. He saw them and loved them for what was inside. He doesn't want us to focus on looking better, changing our appearance.

See? God wants us to stop worrying about our outer self image so much and focus on the image we should be shining to the world. HIS. He wants you to see yourself as he sees you, how others see you.

How do you do that?

This is what I did. I went to my bathroom mirror and stared at myself for a few minutes, head to toe. Next I wrote down all the things I didn't like about myself. Then I went and asked my husband and three friends this question.
What do you see when you look at me?.

I got your'e beautiful, caring, loving, loud, happy. I was shocked. Why? Because not one of them said, well... your'e fat. Nose is too pointy. Ankles too thin etc, etc. Their image of me, was everything they see shining from the inside of me. My character.

As you think about it, that is more than likely how you see people too and to you they are beautiful in their own right. How people see you and how God sees you is how you should see yourself. Outer Beauty lasts but a minute. Inner beauty lasts a lifetime.
So Just be you. Because you are BEAUTIFUL.
God bless!

The battle is won

Breaking Free

There are so many people, including me that struggle in our day to day lives with addictions. Whether it be smoking, coffee, over cleaning, control, over eating. You name it. Even when something else is on our mind the thought of one of those addictions will creep in and remind us.
I myself have struggled with quite a few of the above mentioned and let me tell you. IT WAS HARD. Still is.
As I was driving in the car only the other day, I was talking with the lord. Actually I was faithfully unloading all of my worries on him. I asked through the rambling, Why is it so hard to break this addiction lord?. As I Continued with the list of things I struggled to get a handle on a small voice whispered.
The Battle has already been won.
Yes, the light bulb moment happened and my mouth fell opened. Jesus was right. He had already won the battle for me. When he went to the cross willingly for us, he took all our burdens and ailments with him. He has won the battle for us, we just have a hard time accepting that in the natural. I knew at that moment that Trying to fight these addictions myself was just a waste of energy, Sure I could continue to count calories and keep battling the battle of the bulge ( Yes, I just let my secret out of the bag) or I could embrace the calling god has on my life and hand the weight over to him.
Will I wake up tomorrow and be slim? probably not. But with each passing day I hope to remind myself that the word of God is my Bread. That shame for an addiction is not what he wants. Never fear going to the father for anything. He knows our struggles and will walk with us if we allow him. He will even carry our baggage.
So what I have done is write a huge sign that Hangs on my fridge door with the words.
THE BATTLE HAS ALREADY BEEN WON.
And sometimes If feel like i've let myself down or failed again I look at those words and am reminded that I never had a battle to begin with.
God bless x

Reaching Out

Reaching Out.

It is so easy to get busy. Last year having toddlers at home, running a business and writing two books I was busy. I was constantly reminding myself that I had to call so and so because they had been on my mind. Three weeks later I still had not made that call. I had gotten so busy doing everything for me and with not enough time in the day, I began to forget people. Not just acquaintances, but life long friends and family, even my husband and children. Sadly even God was put on the back burner. It's not that I was ignoring them, I was just forgetting to stop, take a breath and give them my undivided attention.
Then Christmas time last year I was sifting through the bible not exactly sure what I wanted to read just flicking the pages until something caught my eye. There it was staring me in the face as soon as I let the Pages drop open.

Matthew 5:14-16New King James Version (NKJV)

14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Wow, what a verse to bring you back to reality. Reading that I remembered that being busy had somehow became my way of life. That there was nothing stopping me from slowing down and taking time through out the day to focus on someone else, to God and yes even myself. We are to be a light to people in this chaotic world. To shine so bright that when they are around us all they can see is the beauty that life can behold.
So, what I want you to think about today is... What can I do today?. Take five minutes to truly listen to my partner about their day? Laugh with the Children? Send my parents an actual letter like the old days? Call that person who needs to know you were thinking about them? An old friend from the past ? The list is endless.
I really hope you take the time to think about what the scripture above means to you. Let me know how you go and leave a comment below if you get the chance. Now go and be that light.
God Bless
