Remember to put Christ in Christmas!

It's once again the season for holiday cheer, family gatherings, tables laden with food, presents under the tree. Carols by candle light celebrations. It really is the time of year where everybody is busy and the whole point of why we celebrate this joyous day can be forgotten. By the time Christmas morning rolls around it becomes about unwrapping presents, then preparing for the day ahead whether it's visiting the family or cooking a monstrous feast. And don't get me wrong... I LOVE those parts.

The other day I was running our churches Sunday school. As Christmas day draws closer we begin to start our yearly singing and gift preparations with the children. My task for the class was to help the children make Christmas cards that they could hand out to the church goers on Christmas day.
As I was writing my own card out to show the children an example to follow I signed the card inside with Merry Xmas. One of the young six year olds in the class, tapped me on the arm to get my attention.
"You took Christ out of Christmas, Sarah" he politely told me. I was baffled for a moment, thinking what on earth he was talking about, until he pointed down at the card where I had written Xmas
"See you crossed him out" he frowned still pointing at my writing.

Well, you can only imagine my horror when I took his words into my heart and realised what he mean't. To be corrected by a sweet little six year old. From that one comment it set my entire Festive season into a new direction.
Took me back to the core of what this joyous season is really about.
So when you wake up Christmas morning, before opening presents, be conscious of the day is about. As a family take a few minutes to say a prayer for the saviour that was born for us. Say happy birthday to him and rejoice. Before each meal, say a prayer in remembrance.
Remember to put Christ in Christmas.
God Bless!
